Shapes

We're learning and talking about different shapes this week ( M ).

We'll be looking at objects in the environment and deciding what shapes they are.

Games and activities will include playing and making patterns using magnetic shapes and blocks, shape threading and matching coloured shapes whilst playing dominoes ( adult focused activity ).

Apart from basic shapes we'll also look at semi-circles, hexagons, ovals and so on, as we think about examples of them.

On a completely different subject we have several unnamed drink bottles still looking for their home if you've lost one!

Just a reminder about  transition mornings and afternoons into Year 2 Pre-school. These will be taking place on Monday 26th, Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th of this week. Please do approach Julia if you have any queries.

On a personal note this is to be my last blog as I leave to start a new venture.
I just wanted to say that it has been a huge privilege to have been involved in looking after your lovely children in Year 1. It has been so rewarding over the last 8 years to see how much they've developed and flourished, and I take away with me many happy memories.
A big thank you also to you wonderful parents who all do such an amazing job, and whose support has always been much appreciated.
                                                            Helen.

Being Healthy

We hope you've all been enjoying the lovely weather !

We're talking about being and keeping healthy this week. This discussion incorporates the importance of brushing your teeth, getting fresh air, exercise and sleep, as well as  looking after ourselves by eating a good diet.

In the kitchen we'll be making fruit salads using grapes, pineapples, strawberries etc, and will be looking at various other fruit and vegetables to identify.
Perhaps some of you grow your own fruit and vegetables - if so, do put it on a wow slip for us to put on display.

As well as shopping role play we'll be doing a cutting and sticking food related activity.

Books we'll be looking at all week are Oliver's Fruit Salad and Vegetables and Beautiful Bananas.

Just another reminder to make sure you fill in the suncream list by the door, to let us know if you have already applied suncream to your child in the mornings , Many Thanks.

Goldilocks and The Three Bears

We'll be enjoying the classic children's favourite book Goldilocks and The Three Bear throughout this week.

We'll be focusing on different sizes and matching the right sized bears to their matching porridge bowls etc (M).

With particular attention being paid to the number three we'll be doing an adult led activity matching the right amount of small bears to numerals. This is a good way to practice counting as well as getting used to recognising numerals.

Role play will reflect the story and we'll be asking children to recall the story as the week progresses (L).
We will also talk about safety and whether Goldilocks was right to enter the bear's house.

In addition to this we'll be making a little something for Fathers day !

If the sun does finally reappear this week, do remember to tick the suncream list to the right of the entrance door, if you've already applied it to your child that morning.

In preparation for transition in September, our colleague Tracey, who usually works in Year 2, will be coming in with us in order to get to know the children and be a familiar face.

For some of our new parents, just a reminder that any packed lunch boxes are put in the blue box by the pegs, where they are then transferred into our fridge, Many Thanks.

Rainbows

Welcome back, we hope you enjoyed the half term break, despite the unpredictable weather!

It's hard to believe that we are now in the final term of Pre-School Year 1. We're aware that many of you attended the recent coffee morning with Julia, outlining the transition to Year 2. If, for any reason, you were unable to attend or have any further questions, please do not hesitate to approach one of us.

During this shorter week, we'll be talking about rainbows ,whilst naming the colours, and identifying when we are most likely to see them.

Practicing fine motor skills the children will be colouring in and applying glue to make their own rainbows.

To reinforce knowledge of colours we'll be asking the children to find and point out certain different coloured items around the rooms.

At story time we'll be focusing on the book " What Makes A Rainbow " by Betty Schwartz.

Notices

On Friday after school from this week till the end of term, POWSA will be selling ice lolly and ice creams at the end of the school day (3.30) from the pre-school summer house.

This coming Saturday is the school fair starting from 11.00 till 2.00pm. Pre-school are running the refreshments and it would be great if you can donate some cakes for the stall. Please bring them in by Friday. The summer fair is a lovely family event and would be great to see lots of our families there.
