Christmas

Hello Everyone,

Last week we have had a fun, busy week, we have continued with our Christmas themed activities which the children have really enjoyed. Our bags are nearly completed.  We worked on colours in the sand tray and recognition of shapes.
The Santa sledge was created and provoked much Christmas conversations with the children extending their questioning skills.
Exploring the textures of all the Christmas decorations was interesting and the children were matching these to the things they have in their own houses which was good to make the link between the two. It’s been lovely that some of the children have brought in their own Christmas stories to share with their friends.

This week we are looking forward to a fun filled time with the Big Breakfast, Christmas Lunch and Christmas party and finally the Carol Service over at school.
We will be exploring artificial snow in the texture tray. Creating snow men from shaving foam. Finger Frenzy will be using tweezers to decorate cut out snowmen.

Letters and Sounds
We started the smelly socks activity, identifying different smells. The children found this quiet a challenge and could not link the smell to the object when it was in the sock. We will continue with having smelling containers in the Role Play area so they can investigate and start making the link between them.

Home Learning – Please could you continue to save any packets that may have a smell that we could use in our Role Play area. This will help reinforce the letters and sounds activity.
Over Christmas we will be working on making the Role Play area have more ‘Real items’ so if you are planning to have clear out over the Christmas period and think we may be able to use it please bring them in when we start back.
If you would like to share any Christmas pictures then please bring some in as we would like to do a display after Christmas to help the children with their recall skills.

Christmas

Hello Everyone,

Last week we have had a great week and we have started to get ready for Christmas activities. The children have created a fire place in the Role Play area so please pop in and have a look if they have not already showed you.  This created lots of number language as well as good use of their imaginations talking about when Father Christmas comes to their houses.
We have been making lots of things for Christmas which will all become apparent in due course. Lots of children have done painting and artwork which is displayed on our boards so make sure you have a look when your child off as they are very proud of what they have created.

This week we will be continuing our Christmas work in the Role Play area, we will be adding a home made Santa sledge and decorating our own special tree.
Exploring the textures of all the Christmas decorations and seeing if we can describe them. We are counting down to Christmas with Advent books, each child gets to open a different wrapped book each morning so they can see Christmas becoming closer. This is lovely as children have a great love of books and each one is a magical Christmas story.

Letters and Sounds
Environmental sounds have been very interesting for the children they have really enjoyed listening during this time. It has been amazing how quickly they have been picking up and recalling new sounds, linking them to pictures. This week we will be starting a smelly socks activity where they will be identifying different smells. (Not smelling each other’s feet!)

Home Learning – Please could you save any packets that may have a smell that we could use in our Role Play area. This will help reinforce the letters and sounds activity. If your child is able to identify any cooking smells without being prompted then please record this on a star to bring in and display on our board.
