Easter

As I write this it's Mother's Day. I do hope you all have a lovely day as you all do an amazing job.

During the last two weeks of term we'll be focusing on Easter activities.

We'll be talking about shapes and textures as we make chicks, eggs and bunny ear hats, whilst pattern printing and sticking.

There will also be an egg threading activity to practice fine motor skills.

Most of the children have now had an opportunity to observe our real chicken eggs in their incubator in Yr 2. We are now waiting for them to hatch, which is eagerly anticipated !

During the last week of term we will all be going on an Easter egg hunt around the school grounds, turning into a counting activity on our return.

Planting and Growing

Continuing with our Spring theme this week we be looking at the growing process.

Firstly we'll be growing grass seeds in a large tray, following their progress and then when, fully grown, hiding small world figures in it to find !

Every child will also be planting their own sunflower seeds as we discuss what seeds need to grow bigger.

Some of our children have already planted tomato seeds, as an extension from an idea in a book which they asked to replicate.

At snack time we'll talk about the fruit we eat and where and how it's grown.

Books we'll be reading all week will include Jasper's Beanstalk, The Small, Small Seed and Ten Seeds.

Please do let us know on a wow slip if you and your child have planted any seeds at home.

As we finish our Spring display, we'll continue visiting Year 2 to look at the chicken's eggs waiting to hatch.
We will also be having a visit from a real lamb to see up close !

Spring

Our topic this week is Spring Time and observing and talking about all the changes we see around us (UW).

To create our Spring display, arts and crafts will include making daffodils, lambs, rabbits, chicks, butterflies and so on.

During these activities we'll be discussing textures and playing a daffodil counting game (EAD and M ).

Running alongside this we'll be talking about baby animals, what we call them individually, and observing different sizes (M).

Perhaps you could tell us on a wow slip about any baby animals you may have seen with your child.

During this week the children will also be getting the opportunity to look at some real eggs ready to hatch !

People Who Help Us

Firstly we must say how fantastic all of the children looked in their fancy dress costumes on World Book Day ! It's particularly nice to see how many of them took on the persona of their characters as well! There will soon be a group photo of them all on display for you to see.

During this week we'll be talking and learning about People Who Help Us eg Lollipop people, doctors, vets, police, firemen etc.

Related small world and role play will be available, as we ask what exactly these different professions do to help us and how important their roles are (UW).

There will also be a colouring in activity, alongside the children's comments, to look out for on display.

In the kitchen Abi will be making gingerbread men to take home.

Just a reminder that Hot Chocolate and Bedtime Story will be happening this Friday 10th, see memo in pigeon holes for more details.
