Farms and Animals

Image result for dorset farms

Hello Everyone,

We had a lovely week and very much enjoyed looking for mud in the digging beds.
We found a few worms and some slugs that the rain brought out.
Our Butterfly eggs will be arriving over the next few days so, keep an eye out for these.
This week we will move to a new topic of ‘The Farm’ and ‘Animals’
We will be exploring lots of different textures and patterns to create our farm topic work. We will also be practicing our role play on how to milk a cow. We will compare and weighing groups of objects and be looking in to the features and details of different animals.

Letters and Sounds
This week we will be having ‘listening moments’ in the garden to see what new sounds we can hear. The children will be thinking about what their favourite sound is and say why they like it the most. We will keep a record of this.  We will also re visit the sound shakers to see how much the children have recalled from last time.

Jigsaw
We will be playing our musical puzzle game to get everyone working as a team.
We will be talking about who is special to us and what relation they are within the family.
This is to help reinforce Personal, Social and Emotional Development and help them to make life choices.

Home Learning
If you are out and about this week and your child hears a new sound or spots something they have not seen before please could you record this for us.

Notices

As the weather is starting to warm, please could all children bring sun hats to school. We do have a box of spares if needed. If you have applied suncream to your child before school please could you let a member of staff know. If you have ticked to supply your own suncream, please could you make sure children have this when they come to pre-school ready for us to apply.

It was lovely to see some of you at Stay and Play on Wednesday.  This week Stay and Play will be on Thursday 3rd May from 8.30-9.00am. Everyone is very welcome including younger and older siblings. Hope to see lots of you there.

Continuing this week is the Big Pedal. Children are encouraged to scooter or bike to school. We are keeping a tally of how many each day.

On WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND Friday this week we are having our sponsored bike and scooter ride. Please see letter to see which day your child is taking part. Children can bring in their bikes or scooters and helmets. We will be counting how many laps of the island they can do. Each child will get a certificate at the end.

On Friday 18th May it is the POWSA Summer bingo evening. Doors open at 5.30pm and eyes down for 6.00pm. It's a great family evening.

Don't forget to bring in your child's WOW moments. We love to share and celebrate these with everyone. There are spare WOW's by the WOW board in the corridor.

Looking forward to a great week.

Hello Everyone,

We had a great week hearing about all the fun you had during the half term. Please have a look on our display board to see the lovely news your children shared with us.
We have seen a lot of progression in the mark making of the children with lots of details now being added to their drawings. The children love the extra space in the garden being able to use their imaginations and create new games during their play. We have lots planned for the garden so, watch this space.
This week we will continue our ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘Mini Beasts’ work. This week we will be making simple patterns and seeing how well the children can recreate these. Our Butterfly eggs will be arriving soon I’m sure your children will let you know when they arrive in the  classroom. We will also go on a bug exploring hunt this week to see what we may spot out in the outside space.

Letters and Sounds
Listening to the noises that instruments make and following instructions went well. This week we will continue with repeating sounds back as this was more of a challenge.

Jigsaw
We will be playing some team games this week to reinforce names of our friends.
During the week we will also play ‘Teddy lost in the room’ to see how the children’s listening skills are improving.
This is to help reinforce Personal, Social and Emotional Development and help them to make life choices.

Home Learning
Thank you for the Wow’s this week they have been great to see.
Toilet training has been going well for those that have started over the last few weeks.
The main important factor is to be consistent not to confuse your child. Keep up the great start to the term and see you all tomorrow.

This week we will be concentrating on the noises that instruments make and if we are able to play them, as we are given instructions such as loud, soft etc. We will also work on following a short pattern of sounds.

We will be telling any news of our holidays. Who we spent time with and what we enjoyed the most. We will recall Easter and draw some pictures. We will be welcoming a couple of new friends to year 1 this term and will be playing group games so the whole group can remember names after our break.
