Farming fortnight

Hi Everyone,

This week we have had lots of fun making Brown bear for our display board. The children had fun mixing their own colours of brown and used lots of descriptive words. The children have picked up the story really quick and have made up their own version like I - spy.

The children liked playing with the puppets pretending to be bears and also making movements like a bear.

We have been exploring around and helping to look after the animals, feed, ensure they have water, collecting fruit and vegetables from the polytunnel. The children are starting to become more confident in the wildlife garden and on friday afternoon they had a chance to hold the Guinea pigs in small groups if they wanted. Tuesday morning we went to play on the Trim trail climbing equipment over at school we also had a game of football on the field.

In the afternoon we also went on a balance bike ride over and around the school playground. This was on Thursday.

We did some songs with the instruments this week. We had lots of fun drumming loud and soft. Each child had the chance to be the leader and lead the group.

This week we will be focusing on ‘ Farming fortnight’ There will be lots of exciting things to go and see at school. We have lots of fun activities to keep us busy as well as exploring harvest vegetables and talking about how and where they come from and what happens on a farm.  Hopefully the weather will be dry this week and we can play on the play trail area just next to Preschool this week.

Letters and Sounds

We will continue with our letters and sounds activities during group times. We will continue with our listening to different sounds, this week focusing on the inside sounds.

Thought about becoming a parent governor? If you have the skills, interest and commitment for this rewarding role then we would love to hear from you!

                       10th September 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION

I am writing to invite you to stand for election as a parent governor, or nominate another parent to do so. In our school we have provision for 4 parent governors and there is currently 1 vacancy.

The governing body, with the headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school. Governing bodies have three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff

  •  Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work. However, we would particularly welcome nominations from parents with experience of Human Resources and organisational leadership. Training is available for all governors and this governing body has an expectation that those new to being a governor attend free induction training.

The enclosed sheet summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a governor. In addition, parents/carers who have paid employment in the school for 500 or more hours per academic year or who are elected members of the Local Authority are not eligible to stand in these elections. Nominations must be from parents or carers with children at the school on the day that nominations close.

If you would like to stand for election please complete the enclosed nomination form and return it to the school no later than 25/09/2020 You may also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, which should be no longer than 250 words. Self-nominations will be accepted, but if you are nominating another parent please seek their prior consent.

If there are more nominations than vacancies the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure.

Should you have any queries about the role of parent governor or wish to discuss it further, please email clerk@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk

Yours faithfully,

Mr Thomas Easterbrook

Clerk to the Governing Body

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?

Hello Everyone,

We have had a lovely week learning lots of new things and have really started to  play alongside and seek out others to play with which has been great to see. We had lots of adventures on our Bear Hunt and managed to track him down in the end. We enjoyed making our binoculars and our own cutting and sticking bears. We had various shapes to make in the play dough and used lots of different descriptive words. Our paintings have been displayed on the wall in our classroom and we will send some photos on Marvelous me so you are able to see them.

We did some songs with the ‘Tappy sticks’ which everyone enjoyed. The children are starting to have a good sense of rhythm.

This week we will be focussing on the story of ‘ Brown bear, brown bear what do you see’

We have lots of fun activities and resources planned. We are hoping to play on the trim trail over at school and also the ship area just next to pre-school during the  week

Letters and Sounds

We will be starting to do some letters and sounds activities during group times. This week we will be going on a listening walk to see if we can identify some of the outdoor sounds we can hear all around us. We will also see how many environmental sounds the children already know.

Hi everyone

Hello Everyone,

What a great first week back we have had. It has been so lovely to meet and spend some time getting to know your children.

This week we have been exploring the classrooms and getting to know where everything is. We also had fun in the outside play area and went to meet all the animals in the wildlife garden.

If you download the Marvelous Me app we will be able to start sending your some pictures to support their transition period. We should be able to start sending you some photos through this week.

This week we will continue to  be learning about each other, what we like to do, our families, and setting in to Pre-School. If you have any pictures you would like to bring in to support this that would be great.

Remember  If your child is ‘wobbling’  this week we may settle to  playing outside this where we will stay for a short while. It’s always important to say you are leaving and will be back to pick them up later.

Although you may be feeling anxious, stay positive to your child ‘you're going to have a great time.

It was a great first week and can’t wait for another fun week with some more new friends. Catch up with you all at the front door.
