Hello everyone,

Last week we had a lovely week and we learnt all about different shapes. We collages some large shapes which are now on display in the classroom. We made some yummy shaped biscuits using different shaped cutters. We played some shape games including dotty dinosaurs. On Tuesday afternoon we went on a drumstick walk. We used plastic sticks and went outside and explored different sounds we could make with our sticks around the school grounds. We went to the sensory room and really enjoyed exploring the textures and lights.

This week we are talking and exploring all about Harvest. We will be making our own tractors with different shapes and going on an Autumn walk. At snack time we will be talking about where our food comes from.

Shapes

Hello everyone,

Last week we had a lovely week singing our favourite nursery rhymes and making our Nursery rhymes display. The children really enjoyed making their own Humpty Dumpty, Baa Baa Black sheep and the wheels on the bus. The children have also been playing the colour game of Humpty Dumpty along with Knicker blocker glory. They were all amazing at knowing their colours.

This week we are going to be learning all about shapes, We will be making some large shapes to hang from the ceiling. We will be decorating them using different paint techniques e.g. marbling, sponging along with sticking and gluing.
We will also be playing some shape games including dotty dinosaur which  is a lotto shape game.
We will also be cooking some shape biscuits to bring home. (Can your child tell you which shapes they have made?)

Home Learning:-   Can you find and name some of the shapes in your house? Please write a Wow so we can share it with your pre-school friends.

Last week we started sending Charlie bear home with the children. Every child will be taking home our own Charlie Bear at some stage during the term. He comes with his own backpack, accessories and guidance notes, and usually stays with you for a week. Within the provided book you can record whatever you have done with Charlie, and include drawings or photos but please, no pressure! We fully understand that you are busy people.
If you are happy for us to share details of Charlie's stay, we'll then read it out to the other children at story time.
This is a lovely way for children to share and take responsibility for something special, often enjoying telling us all about what they got up to ! ( UW )

Nursery Rhymes and colour

Hello everyone,

Wow, What a fantastic first week at Pre-school. It has been lovely to meet and welcome our new children and their families. They have all settled in so well.
We have been painting a picture of ourselves for our class board. These are up in the classroom on display. Take a look.

This week we will be singing our favourite nursery rhymes and then making some props to go with our favourite nursery rhymes. We will also be playing the Humpty Dumpty game and talking about different colours during these activities. We will be making a display of our favourite nursery rhymes.
It would be great to hear about your  family nursery rhymes  favourites, please feel in a WOW. (These are by the door in the classroom. Please ask a member staff if you are unsure where these are)

Thank you to those of you that have already returned the All about Me sheets, these are really helpful in giving us information about your child's likes and dislikes but also where they are in their learning. We can then use these to help with planning your child's next step.

Just for information we always encourage a set routine which helps the children to settle and know what to expect. For example we always start with child led free play with an adult led one to one activity running alongside. This activity usually ties in with our children's next steps and interest for the week. We then tidy up as a team, wash hands in preparation for snack time and then have snack as a group. Following this we have free flow of inside and outside play. The morning session always ends with a story, singing songs and letters and sounds. It's always great to see how quickly the children learn these new routines, which in turn helps their confidence. The afternoon session continues as the same as the morning session.

WOW'S- On the board by the door are the blank WOW slips. These WOW slips are for you at home to write about something your child has done e.g an achievement, a place you have been, news you would like to share at pre-school etc.

Notices:-

On Tuesday 12th September at 7.30pm in the Main school there is a POWSA meeting. POWSA is our Parent Fundraising Association who organise events like the Christmas Fair, Bingo, Summer Fair ETC.

WHAT IS POWSA?

For those who have never attended a POWSA meeting before the thought can be intimidating but we are all friendly parents who want to help the school offer the best of opportunities to all the pupils who pass through it's doors, whilst having a little fun along the way. We give up a little bit of time every now and then to help provide some of those extras that help make our school such a fantastic place and if you would like to learn more we would love to see you.

If you have any question please do come and ask a member staff or myself.

Here's to a great second week.

Welcome to The Prince of Wales Preschool Year 1 blog

                                         Welcome

Hello and a warm welcome to Pre- School Year one !
We understand that this is an exciting time as your child starts their school journey, and we are here to make this transition as smooth as possible, encouraging your child to have fun, whilst learning, in a safe environment.
With that in mind, here are a few pointers to help with settling in :

The practitioners that will be supporting your children are Chloe, Helen, Colleen and Sharon.

During the first week or two look out for a welcome pack in the pigeon holes. Contained within this is a host of information including paying fees, ordering uniforms if required, lunch club details and so on. Particularly helpful to us is a booklet titled All About Me, within which you can detail your child's likes, dislikes and so on.

Your child will have their own learning journey containing observations, photos and details of activities. After the initial four weeks of settling in, I will then arrange to see individual parents to go through these journeys and discuss progress made.

We also like to hear about what your child's been doing outside pre- school, and these comments can be outlined on Wow slips which can be found on the parents noticeboard, with guidance notes by the entrance door. See attached guidance notes next to them. These are then put on display and then go into the learning journeys.

We try to discourage children bringing in their own toys etc from home to avoid loss or sharing issues. We would, however, make exceptions if these are needed as a source of comfort in the early days. They can always also be kept in the backpack and be taken out if required.

As messy play is part of pre-school life we would ask that you provide spare clothes in a backpack or similar, which can be hung on their peg.

Drinks and snacks are provided so there is no need to bring in any.

If your child is staying for lunch please put their lunch box and drink in the blue box by the pegs, which we later transfer to the fridge.

During this first week we'll be talking about what we did in the holidays and introducing our new routines, which are so important at this early stage.

We are really looking forward to getting to know you and your child but, in the meantime, please do not hesitate to approach us with any queries or concerns.
