The Very Hungry Caterpillar

In line with World Book Day this Thurs 2nd March, we're turning our attention to children's favourite The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

This book encompasses counting, different types of food and the process of growth and change (UW).
As the week goes on we are also able to see how the children are able to listen to the story with increasing attention and recall (L).

The children will be colouring in the featured food outlines, and, when laminated and hole punched, will be practicing their fine motor skills as they thread them in the same order as in the book (PD).

Running alongside this we'll be making folded butterflies sponge painted in bright colours (EAD).

We will be loaning out this book to enjoy at home too, so do let us know your children's comments.

Regarding World Book Day you should have all received a memo by now about your child wearing fancy dress, but this is entirely optional so no pressure!

On Tuesday our staff colleague Sharon will be planting tomato seeds in welly boots. This has all come about as Sharon was reading a Peppa Pig book to three of the children, in which Peppa's Muddy Welly Pots was featured. The children then asked if they could do the same as Peppa so hence this activity! We'll be following the growth process regularly(UW).

Just a kind reminder to new parents to clearly label all outer clothes, lunch boxes etc to avoid confusion, Thank You.

                                           Helen.
