Hello everyone....

Year 1

Hello Everyone,

We have had a great week of learning and the children have really enjoyed exploring the story of ‘Whatever Next’

On Monday we read the story together and the children asked lots of questions about the Moon.

On Tuesday we watched the most recent rocket launch of the ULA’s Vulcan and made some cutting and sticking rockets of our own.

On Wednesday we did lots of movement and exercise with the zooming to the Moon song from the  Sticky Kids collection.

On Thursday we continued with our sticking Rockets, zooming to the Moon, exploring with torches in dark dens.

On Friday we tried a balloon experiment trying to make it rocket along the string. We had to keep trying as this did not work very well. In the afternoon we went for a listening to sounds exploring walk around the school grounds. We took our tapping tubes to see the different noises various materials made when tapped.

The children are really enjoying our healthy overs activities and they have been getting very skilled with the scarves this week. They are able to wrap them up very small and pass them behind themselves and swap hands. We even tried passing it under a leg!

At snack times the children have been managing very well using cups without lids. If you are able to try this at mealtimes at home it will allow the children to gain more confidence with this skill. Drinking from a cup is very different to a bottle with a lid.

This week we are all very excited to welcome Chloe who is returning from her maternity leave back to Preschool . Chloe will be working Monday’s, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lauren and James will continue to work in the class. The children have been so interested in Space that we will continue with this theme this week. We have lots of fun activities planned and some science experiments which I am sure the children will enjoy.

Charlie Bear will be starting to make his adventures home with the children this week. We look forward to reading about what he has been up to over his time with you. If it’s easier you can email any photos to Zoe on the email address below.

Home Learning

  • Can you put on your own shoes and coat ready for Preschool? the children are getting more resilient to having a try at doing this themselves.

  • How many square shaped items can you see in your house?

We are welcoming some new faces to the class this week so we will be learning some new names to play with.
