Global Awareness Fortnight

Hello Everyone,

We had a lovely week and we loved the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’
The children enjoyed tasting some of the fruits from the story and talking about the colours, texture and shapes the fruits come in.
The week was finished off with our great dancing which all the children loved. They particularly liked watching all the other classes perform. The children had fun making their necklaces and bracelets which encouraged a lot of counting and sequencing skills. We also tried the Elderflower Juice that was brought from the shop! It was not very popular I have to report.
We need to continue making new bins for plastic and paper and talk about how we can help the environment with recycling. During the week we will be making some display work to go in the main school hall. The country we have to cover is Africa.
We will be contributing to the banner on the theme of ’Handa’s Surprise’ also making some food to show what they like to eat in Africa.

Letters and Sounds
We will be continuing different rhymes with the drums and shakers. We will also listen to some African music to help us play in the right style. We will play ‘Teddy lost in the room.’ To re cap this and see how the children are working together. During the session we will be getting the children to clap out the rhythms of their names to see if they are able to copy them back.

Jigsaw
This week we will be talking about families and what news we have to report to the group. We will use the map as a prompt to look at and see what conversations and interest it brings.
This is to help reinforce Personal, Social and Emotional Development and help them to make life choices.

Home Learning
The Wow Board is looking great. We have had to extend the area to fit them all in so it’s been a great team effort so thank you. Please continue to add any Wow’s and photos of days out that your child can share.
